dog behavior – does anyone know how to stop fecies eating?

I do not want to use drugs, natural way if possible.

I have struggled with this since I got one of my dogs. I tried the aids that they sell at pet stores (Forbid & Deter), neither had any effect. Adding some fresh pineapple to her meals seemed to help a little (supposed to make it taste really bad when it comes out the other end), but hasn't completely stopped it.

First, make sure she is on a good quality food, as bad quality foods can cause them to eat their feces (bad quality doesn't fully digest, so what goes in comes out the same). I have heard that adding meat tenderizer to their food can also help, but I have not tried that yet.

Good Luck!

use a little bit of ketchup in their food if its their own. ketchup will deter them from eating their own.
if not you are just going to have to watch close whenever you are around other doggie areas. and teach the leave it command.

I've heard giving them a little pineapple makes their feces taste nasty. I've never tried it, so I can't give an opinion on how well it works. I have used Deter in the past with minimal success.

When walking the dog, be on the lookout, and don't allow him to drag you over to a pile.
And if the dog is not housebroken and eats his own, then you just need to housebreak him.

I've fed all mine chopped pineapple(which they love, just added to their evening meal) That has worked, but ideally it should be picked up as soon as it is "dumped".
If it is being eaten whilst you are out for a walk,it's almost impoosible to stop them from eating it apart from keeping them on a lead.
Most dogs that do eat feaces seem to only eat the reasonably fresh stuff!!!!! Absolutly disgusting,I'm so glad mine do do it any longer!!!!!!!!!!!
