I'm getting my 6 month old maltese neutered tomorrow, and I was just wondering, what happens to a dog's behavior when they get neutered? Do they become calmer? Any info would be apprieciated. Thanks!
Sometimes they calm down if they were hyper because of the decrease in male hormones, sometimes it does nothing. But otherwise will not change the your dog he'll still be the same after recovery. You would not notice much change anyways because he is young and has not developed bad characters yet such as roaming for in heat females and marking his territory. Good job on getting him fixed. He might be sleepy when you pick him up after sx and no food depending on when you pick up but they will give you discharge instructions as per his vets orders

lt can help to calm them down, but it doesn't always have that affect.
lt will stop him going crazy when he smells a b*tch in heat and also stop him running off to find her.

Much less aggressive and calmer. Neutered and spaying pets make a much happier pet because they are not in competition with other dogs for the opposite sex.

I have had quite a few dogs neutered, and I have not noticed much difference. I would assume, though, that if you have an older male, he would become less aggressive.

I had my dog neuter, and all I could tell was that he calmed down, he wasn't as hyper and running around like a chicken w/ it's head cut off. So as far as different behavior that's all I could tell, and he will also gain weight, so you will have to watch how much he eats and how often u feed him, Hope this helps,

Since you are doing it at 6 months, it is hard to tell. If you were doing it before the dog was sexually mature many behaviors that are hormone started would be averted. At six months there is a good chance that the dog is sexually mature. Spay and neutering at any age is always a good idea especially for health reasons.

It may have a calming effect if your little guy is excitable.

If you get them neutered early enough (at about 6 months, etc.) then they pretty much have that playful nature. Sometimes they do tend to be more on the calmer side but not always. I got my dog neutered between 6-8months old (he is a Great Dane). He is now 2 years old and still plays all the time. So I think it depends on the type of dog and when you get them neutered.
You do need though to make sure he doesn't jump up on anything and doesn't bite, etc. at the stitches. Make sure you follow your vet's instructions and make sure he gets nothing to eat/drink after midnight tonight.
I hope I have helped a little. Good luck!
