After the third time of this, we decided to get someone to come in a couple of times a day or just live in while we are gone, much less anxiety for the dogs - just has to be someone they know and like and whom you can trust. Other option is to take the dogs with us - we have an RV just for that reason and often take them with us too. Hard to have a good time when you are worried about your pets, so make sure you find a solution that works. We also pet set for friends' dogs sometimes, happy to help when we can. I have a neighbor boy who loves dogs, come take them outdoors 4X a day. (the yorkie is paper trained). Since I pay him well, if something comes up where he can't one time, his Dad steps in to do it. It's important to know the people you hire, you know they will take care. If not a neighbor, I would try a relative. Or if you can find a neighbor you can reciprocate the favor with.
