It's really hard to find last minute boarding for a holiday. Most people reserve well in advance. Any place you do find I'd be wondering why they still have space.

Can't you take the dog with you? Maybe a friend can take him?

You usually need to book boarding well in advance on holiday weekends. Your better bet is to try and find a pet sitter in you area at this point. Ask friends and acquaintances, call your vet and check on craigslist. And if there are a lot of fireworks in your area, try and find someone who will spend that evening with your dog. Many dogs escape in terror when left alone with fireworks going off – many get injured, hit by cars in their panic or just plain lost.

You might want to check with your groomer. I know a few groomers and they do pet sit, either at their shop or home. Short notice, check them out first.

I dont know if you can get a place this late but usually vets have boarding kennels.

You could try there if your veterinary office offers that.

Why can you not take the dog with you?
Could a friend take your dog?

    Good luck!

try to find a local puppy hotel. or even ask the vet or local animal shelter if they can take care of your dog for a few days.

We had this problem… it IS hard to find a decent place that will take your dog. We had to call four places before we found one, and when we went to visit a few days ago it was horrible – all cement and gravel, one person working (she was surprised there was dog poop in an outdoor pen…), no beds for the dogs (so if you don't bring their own their out of luck), middle of the woods, etc.

So we called about ten other places until we found a nicer one. And we started looking two weeks ago! Next time we'll try a few months ahead – i would check with your vet for boarding and if one place is booked ask them for references! They'll gladly give them – the ones we called did.

There's also the possibility of finding someone to come to your home to play with the dog, feed, and let them out. Maybe a close friend or relative?
