Thanks for posting …
Thanks for posting this. My er-Dachshund has seizures once a month and this is what I’ll do. I see too many people that let their dogs “ride it out”. Preventative measures can go a long way. You may not be able to stop the seizure but you can do a lot to make sure that your dog is not going to hurt itself . My dog is small enough that I can pick her up and put her on her large pillow and hold her down. I talk to her and let her know I’m there. It’s absolutely terrible. Thanks again.

If you search for …
If you search for Epil-K9 on most search engines you’ll find a great website on canine epilepsy. It’s like a forum for epileptic dog owners.

There is some …
There is some recent research that shows placing ice on the center of the back, along the spine can help pull a dog out of a seizure, or break clusters. Also, moving smaller dogs to a dog bed to hold them down is beneficial for keeping them safe.

I am not sure …
I am not sure covering the dog with a blanket is a good idea, I tried this with a towel on my dog Archie (I posted a video of one of his siezures)He acually has a lot of mouth movement during his siezure and he bit down and locked on to the towel and it took me some time, even after the siezure to get it out of his mouth. So I will keep a towel handy but he is small enough I can hold him from hurting himself during the event.

Seizures often …
Seizures often compromise breathing, and the oxygen deprivation can cause brain and other tissue damage if a seizure lasts a long time. If the seizure continues for more than 5-10 minutes your dog may be in status epilepticus, and she may die if no medical intervention (such as injection of an anti-seizure drug) is available. Fortunately, status epilepticus is very rare, but keeping track of seizure duration lets you know when you need to call a vet or rush your pet to an animal hospital.

My golden retreiver …
My golden retreiver just had a seizure a few minutes ago so I hopped online to see what to do. She only had on other one (I’m aware of) two years ago.
May I ask what seizure time might indicate?

Adding to this …
Adding to this don’t let your dog over-heat.Make sure you have fresh water available to them, stay with them and give them lots of gentle love.Keep away from the stairs. My dog had epilepsy and the best thing to do is be informed learn everything you can on the subject. I found to my disappointment vets don’t always help with info they are too busy or some don’t know enough,so look up on the net,and join a cannine epilespsy support group. Don’t give up get help.

Thank you so much, …
Thank you so much, I just got a puppy, and he is epileptic. I am so scared for him. The only thing is that he doesn’t lie on the floor as much, he kind of hides in a corner to get away from us because he is obviously scared. and he sits there and twitches with his leg. Should i do the same thing?
